Background: Harvested from Sul Minas in the Minas Gerais region in Brazil, Santos is traditionally a natural processed coffee. Growing elevations in Brazil range from 600-1200 masl, comparatively low in comparison to the 1600 MASL plus elevations found in Central America, Colombia and East Africa. These lower grown altitudes mean that this coffee is typically low in acidity, and produce well-rounded and sweet cups.

Tasting Notes: Nutty, dark chocolate notes throughout, with a crisp lemon acidity and silky mouth feel.
Background: It is typically harvested from altitudes of 1200-1500 MASL in the Valle Central and Tarrazu districts. The soil in the region is enriched with volcanic ash and organic matter which promote good distribution of the root systems and, in turn, retain moisture and facilitate oxygenation. This combination of characteristics contribute to the exceptional quality of Costa Rican coffee. Plantations cover a total of more than 100,000 hectares throughout Costa Rica. More than 70 percent of annual production is harvested from the highlands, at altitudes of 1000-1700 MASL. Average temperatures fluctuate between 17-23 degrees celsius, sunlight is stable and rainfall is optimal, providing the ideal climatic conditions for growing coffee. Producers in Costa Rica are committed to cultivating high quality coffee in a sustainable manner. Coffee production is an essential way of life, and producers dedicate their lives to the plantations they nurture. More than 500,000 people contribute to the cultivation, harvesting and processing of coffee in Costa Rica, and in return benefit from these activities.

Background: India cultivates all of its coffee under a well-defined two-tier mixed shade canopy, comprising evergreen leguminous trees. Nearly 50 different types of shade trees are found in coffee plantations. Shade trees prevent soil erosion on a sloping terrain; they enrich the soil by recycling nutrients from deeper layers, protect the coffee plant from seasonal fluctuations in temperature, and play host to diverse flora and fauna. Coffee plantations in India also produce a wide variety of spices and fruit crops like pepper, cardamom, vanilla, orange and banana grow alongside coffee plants. Background: Taylor-Winch was originally established in the early 60,s primarily Peter Winch and his wife Rosemary Taylor with Volcafe taking a minority equity interest first then fully owning the business in 2006. Based in Nairobi, Taylor Winch’s core business and focus is quality green coffee to the global market. Daily cupping of auction offerings, export administration and the all-important quality control are run from the main office. Export preparation and container loading takes place at the modern warehouse facility along Mombasa Road, close to the port of Mombasa. Sealed containers are railed down to Mombasa then onto ships. Dirk Sickmueller and his team are highly respected in the industry for their knowledge and focus on quality. We work very closely with them, taking their advice and appreciating their foresight. They know what we are looking for and season after season; ensure our Kenyan coffees match quality and price.

Background: Kimel (the producer) is one of the very few estates in PNG and is situated to the north of Mount Hagen. It operating its own wet and dry mill, covers 600 hectares and accepts the production of local and village plantations which covers an additional 1000 hectares. Growing Arusha, Bourbon, Typica varietals, the original trees on the estate were from the Jamaican Blue Mountains. A combination of the unique environment and plantation practices such using coffee pulp for fertiliser, dried husks for heating and fresh, unpolluted water from the mountains all add to the estates sustainability practices. Kimel beans are acknowledged for their distinctive characteristics, especially the savoury notes and bright, very pleasant acidity.
